Inner Critic, Part IV

Writer's picture: Jennifer EdwardsJennifer Edwards

Reaction to Your Inner Critic

How do you react when someone criticizes you? Do you feel humiliated, shame, self-doubt or depressed? Such reactions imply that part of you believes what they’re saying is true. Would you feel as deflated, if someone attacked you for having two heads? Would you question your worth or think there’s something wrong with them, not you?

Instead of feeling flattened or dispirited when criticized, a mentally healthy person assesses  the criticizer's comments to judge if there's any truth and if so, works to make any needed change. Otherwise, if the comments are deemed irrelevant they are dismissed and such critique slides off as if on teflon.
